Before Lila came to therapy she was shut down. She didn’t want this issue to exist and wouldn’t let anyone touch her her talk to her about it. We tried quite a few things and saw other physical therapist that didn’t help. There was maintenance but it was getting worse and there was no progression until we met Dawn. She was resistant, she lost motivation and refused to ride a bike or do the things that she used to love we were all frustrated that she couldn’t keep up with us. Now she’s happy and confident again and more open and not so shut down. I see a whole new kid and I’m so excited for all the good stuff in front of her!

Before my therapy I felt insecure and was bullied by my friends about my tummy. I felt bad, angry and sad. Now I’m playing tennis riding my bike and I’m happy that I can do more stuff with people.

As a patient of Physical Therapy Specialists, I have not only found their treatment to be expert and tailored to my individual needs, helping me reduce my chronic pain, but have also felt supported and cared for on a personal level by their therapists. Because of my experience, I have recommended Physical Therapy Specialists to others, including those struggling with chronic pelvic pain.

I am a male 56 years old who has suffered from chronic pelvic pain and other symptoms associated with chronic cystitis since I was 39. My symptoms have been controlled somewhat through the use of medications, weekly physical therapies and the religious practice of yoga. Earlier this year I started receiving once per week, and then twice per week dry needling focused on the pelvic floor muscles as well as down regulating the parasympathetic nervous system. Up regulation of the nervous system seems to be a major factor in the continuation of my chronically tight muscles and symptoms associated with the pelvic floor dysfunction in general. After one year of treatment, I believe that the dry needling sessions have actually resulted in permanent positive changes in restoring ultra tight musculature to normal tone as well as down regulation of the nervous system. I believe these two facts offer me the best opportunity for improvement than I’ve seen from any other treatment modalities.

I feel like I have the tools and knowledge to keep working on my condition and have been able to manage my symptoms pretty well over the past few months.  I wanted to say thank you, not just for everything you did for me, but to choose this specialty and for doing what you do for all the people who have nowhere else to turn.  Because of you, my quality of life (and my family around me) has improved tremendously. Also, having Ann Marie run the insurance paperwork was a huge help as well as her diligence on calling and finding appointments for me made seeing you pretty effortless on my part.

After living with chronic pelvic pain for decades, I had given up hope that there was anything or anyone who could help me. I was encouraged to make an appointment with Dawn and during that first appointment I knew I was in a place where I was safe, that my pain would not increase as had happened before. Dawn has an intuitive component to her healing, in addition to her institutional knowledge. She is not afraid to take on “difficult” cases; I am filled with gratitude for all she has done for me.

As a lifelong dancer and amateur athlete, I have endured many injuries. As time went on, there were car accidents, illnesses, surgeries and a c-section. I’ve been to everyone and tried every “fix” to no avail. Thank you is not sufficient gratitude for the knowledgeable and caring staff at Physical Therapy Specialists for diagnosing and helping me to heal my body. PTS has changed my life!

I trust and always know the physical therapists have my best interests in mind. They give me exercises that match my current state and can vary from week to week. Other PTs have given me exercises that have hurt me more. I know I will get individualized treatment and that what works for me might not work for someone else. My therapist takes the time to listen to my body and teaches me how to do the same.

They know people are afraid and in pain and they give hope to those who have become hopeless.

The staff is always caring and attentive. The office manager knows all of the patients and works hard to make sure everyone is cared for.

After having 3 children, I suffered with urinary incontinence which occurred with sneezing, coughing and any physical activity. I wanted to be more active without worrying about this issue and taking precautions. Everyone would say just do your Kegels! Well, that was not working! After talking to my OB/Gyn about pelvic floor pain, she recommended Physical Therapy Specialists. A Life Changer! I so was impressed with their methods. Here is someone who knows what I have been suffering with — the pain and incontinence. They are so knowledgeable in these areas that I felt at ease and confident that I can overcome these issues. With progressive treatment, support and exercises and the Peri-coach (which helped me to see my strength of my pelvic floor) I am now an active person. Just last spring I was able to run a 5K with my daughters and have no issues! A memory I will cherish!! Thank you, PTS!

Instead of the usual 20 minutes with a therapist working on several patients, at PTS the therapist is working on one patient with a variety of applications for one full hour. Their expertise level is EXTREMELY high!

Back Pain February 16, 2021

I’ve been to several physical therapists over the years. Physical Therapy Specialists are the only ones who took the time to listen to me and consider a whole body approach. Dawn was the first to tell me my back is not isolated from the rest of my body. For years, it was hard to let any doctors even touch me for fear it would worsen my symptoms. The systemic approach is completely different from the factory approach I’ve seen before. Traditional physical therapy delayed my progress, but I always feel better and motivated when I leave my appointment with PT specialists.

I feel like a weight that has been on me is lifted and I can do a lot more. I can do sleepovers now. I feel more independent and that is one thing I can let go.

The biggest thing is the confidence that my son feels. Hearing him talk about it now, I see the extra joy he now can experience.

I don’t have to focus on staying dry and holding it in anymore.  I can control my bladder now during the day. I feel success in staying dry.

I was skeptical at first because it wasn’t the first time I dealt with it.  I didn’t see any lasting effects in the past. What I like about Dawn’s approach is she looked at the whole person, not just the bladder.  Dawn’s follow-up is a multi-faceted approach to treat the child to ensure success. Dawn personally cares about the patient and both the child and parent for success.

If you have rectal pain and have found no one to relieve your suffering, I strongly recommend that you contact PT Specialists and see therapist Dawn Sandalcidi, PT, RCMT, BCIA-PMDB as soon as possible. She will not only perform effective treatments, but will give you the tools to work on the problem yourself at home, so you’re working as a team. I suffered for 9 months until a colo-rectal surgeon referred me to Dawn. I had a tailbone injury from a fall in 2007, and evidently, injections for hemorrhoid surgery 9 months ago set me up for 24/7 pain unlike any I had ever experienced. Sitting was excruciating, pain meds didn’t help much, and I was becoming depressed, unable to perform normal activities, and withdrawing from my friends and family. When I sat, it felt like I was sitting on a golf ball, so I avoided sitting. I also was in such pain I could not sleep on my back. We nearly postponed an RV vacation because of the pain, but fortunately, I was able to get in to see Dawn, then I left for a 3-week vacation. Dawn showed me a model of the rectal floor muscles – I didn’t know there were so many – and did an evaluation to determine which muscles were involved and where. Those of you who are in agony with rectal floor pain won’t mind my graphic description, I hope, because the results were beyond my expectations. Dawn works on the muscles internally, vaginally and rectally, and did something called needling. She found the trigger points all right! She also gave me an easy exercise to do every day and suggested I purchase a coccyx cushion, which is a cushion you sit on, and there is an empty space where your tailbone is so there’s no pressure there. Wish I’d known about that 9 months ago because it’s great. I paid $25 for it at You Can Toucan in Denver. Dawn saved our vacation and me from being miserable. I was sore for a few days, and then began noticing a lessening of pain to the point that I wasn’t aware of it constantly. Just the one treatment worked wonders. I went back today for a 2nd treatment – painful, but I’m sure it will be effective. Dawn is professional, knowledgeable, skillful, and it’s evident she cares about her patients, most of whom have the same problem I do. She is a specialist in an area about which most other doctors and therapists know nothing. I am very grateful for what she has done for me, and I recommend her to you or anyone with pain in the rectal floor muscles. Another asset – Dawn feels that 6-8 treatments may be enough for me to resolve my problem. I’m sure it varies with each individual. Good luck and take heart – help IS available! – S.B., Parker, Colorado

I cannot say enough wonderful things about the service we have received at PT Specialists. My wife has had pelvic pain and other issues associated with it for years. Dawn Sandalcidi was the first PT who had any idea how to treat her specific situation. Others tried varied other exercises, etc., but Dawn Sandalcidi had experience and clear insight on how to treat her. Thank you!

I have suffered with TMJ, headaches, and severe muscle pain for quite a few years! I was referred to Dawn after I had upper and lower jaw surgery, due to the pain persisting post surgery. This practice was a huge blessing to me in a time of desperation and need to give me relief of chronic and aggravating pain. I wish I had found them sooner. I think everyone struggling with pain of any sort should go for a consultation and see what their options are, regardless of where they are in the treatment process. I wish my doctors had required PT with them Preop and Post op because it would have saved me lots of pain and suffering in the long run. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Dawn and Mara, for all the knowledge and hard work you put into my case! I’m grateful to discharged, but will forever keep you guys in my contacts to use for the future.

I can’t say enough good things about Dawn and Physical Therapy Specialists! I’ve been in chronic hip and abdominal pain for almost three years now. I had just about given up when I found Dawn. In a matter of 4 months, she has significantly reduced my pain and has referred me to numerous other amazing health practitioners. Dawn has given me hope that I will be out of this chronic pain soon!

It’s hard to know what good physical therapy looks like until you experience it. Dawn spends a full hour with her patients, takes diligent notes about their progress and is dedicated to ensuring all patients make at least some progress after a just few visits with her. (In comparison, I was doing physical therapy somewhere else 2-3 times per week for 8 months and my progress declined.)

If you’re questioning whether or not to do a consultation or seek treatment, DO IT. Your pain isn’t normal, and you deserve to live a “normal” life. I’ve been working with Kristin Anderson, and she has made the process so comfortable and validating. I had gotten to the point where my pain was interfering with my marriage, and in being treated, Kristin’s holistic approach has helped diagnose and treat other areas of pain I didnt know were related but that Id been seeking treatment in Washington, DC for over 7 years. The front desk personnel and the staff have been incredibly supportive, and the professionalism that they’ve all demonstrated throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

I know you may be questioning whether or not you need to see them, but if you’ve even considered it, you do. My only regret is not seeking treatment earlier.

The staff at Physical Therapy Specialists are truly amazing! I developed pudendal neuralgia in 2008 from long distance bicycling. I thought my cycling days were over, but thanks to Dawn Sandalcidi I was back on a bicycle a year later and was bike touring shortly thereafter.

Over the years, Dawn and her staff have come to the rescue when I pushed cycling more than I should have. They have allowed me to continue bicycle touring longer than I dreamed possible twelve years ago. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that they literally saved my life!

I cannot say enough. Significant improvement after a serious car accident. Kristin is in an entirely different league than other physical therapists I have encountered. She has an absolute mastery, and detailed and intricate understanding of the human body coupled with intuitiveness, and deep kindness and attentiveness. I think every patient feels like that are her favorite patient!! My daughter saw Mara, and she was of the same high caliber, as well as having a commitment and caring toward my daughter.

I have had numerous GI and Lower GI issues over the last decade, resulting in multiple surgeries. I began having chronic pelvic pain just before the last surgery, and after the “expected” recovery time, I actually felt worse. Multiple tests (CT’s, MRI’s) did not show anything abnormal, and multiple doctors could not determine the cause other than to say I showed definite sensitivity (pain) in certain areas. I was finally sent to a Pelvic Pain Specialist who referred me to Physical Therapy Specialists, specifically Kelly Sammis, who has reversed the downward spiral I was on and I now have hope I can return to normal at some point. She is EXTREMELY knowledgeable in the pelvic pain area, and has many “tools in her toolbox” so to speak that she can use to relieve symptoms as well as repair/reset anatomy that is not working normally. I’m not sure how long my case will take, I can only say I’m headed in the right direction so far, and it’s all due to Kelly. Many thanks. Also many thanks to Ann Marie who is EXTREMELY helpful with the administration/insurance and billing issues. Awesome PT practice!

Dawn and the team here are absolutely amazing! I am so grateful for Dawn and her magic hands, brilliant mind and techniques which helped me recover from my painful TMJ issue that I’ve had for a few years. They have amazing techniques and approaches that made the world of difference in the pain I was facing. I’ve taken my daughter to see her for knee/ foot pain from running and I just went back for help with new back shoulder pain that I was experiencing for several months that massage therapist weren’t able to help me with – but within a few minutes she new what the issue was and has already put me on the path to recovery!

I love PT Specialists! I see Dawn Sandalcidi, and she is an expert in her field. She looks at the whole body and designs a plan of care for you both when you see her and when you are at home. She takes the time to connect with you at the beginning of each visit, and she has been instrumental in helping me deal with pelvic pain that has shown up after my hysterectomy. Dawn not only has the knowledge to get the job done, she has a very caring heart and she cares for patients very deeply. I can talk to her about anything, and she will listen. She has a great bedside manner! Dawn has truly been THE key component in my healing, and I am so glad that I found her and this office. I also wanted to share that office manager, Ann Marie, has also been so sweet. She is a great communicator and so friendly. This is such a wonderful office.

I originally found Physical Therapy Specialists due to a referral from a pelvic floor specialist. I continue to see the therapists (all of them are outstanding) for any physical pain or movement problem that arises. All of the therapists are sensitive to the nervous system, the emotional connection to the body, and the different muscle, fascia tissue and organ systems in the body. Not only do I feel better as I leave after a session, but they teach me how to assess and self-correct at home, so I can continue to feel good and move well without becoming dependent on coming to physical therapy.

I am 60 years old and my body feels better and moves better than it did when I was in my 30’s!
