Health Benefits of Dark Chocolate
Updated: Jul 9, 2019
Summer is a time when we try to be more active and live healthier lifestyles. These goals might mean giving up indulgences like sugar or chocolate. However, July 7th is World Chocolate Day, which gives everyone a free pass to splurge. Don’t worry though, there are a lot of great health benefits to chocolate, if it is in moderation.
The one mistake people often make when eating chocolate is eating candy bars or milk chocolate. This chocolate has the most sugar, and therefore is the least healthy for you.
Dark chocolate is the healthiest kind of chocolate you can eat, as it is full of antioxidants. Studies have shown that dark chocolate has more antioxidants than some berries!
Cacao and dark chocolate have also been proven to improve blood flow and blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease and high cholesterol.
The thing to remember is to eat dark chocolate in moderation. Maybe swap out milk chocolate chips for dark chocolate in your recipes. You might also try eating it with other healthy foods such as dark chocolate covered almonds or putting a bit of dark chocolate in a smoothie.
Here’s a healthy smoothie recipe for summer that will also give you a dark chocolate fix!
